Est. 1858

Classified as a Mini-Park; used to address unique recreational needs. Crescent Park was established October 28, 1858 and is one of the oldest parks in the city of Grand Rapids. George K. Johnson and Dr. Francis H. Cummings started the movement to establish Crescent Park. Both deeded the property to the city for park purposes. Dr H. Cummings was director of St Marks Episcopal Church from 1843-1861. Dr. H. Cummings personally superintended the shaping of the hill declivity for park purposes. The park was rebuilt in 2010 as part of VanAndel Research Institute’s expansion. It includes a small plaza dedicated to cancer survivors.
