Volunteer Tree Planting Project

March 3 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

It’s finally time to plant trees again! Sign up by emailing claire@friendsofgrparks.org to reserve your spot for this fun afternoon of beautifying our city. New trees not only bring beauty and environmental benefits to neighborhoods, but also help work toward our goal of increasing Grand Rapids’ tree canopy.
Friends’ staff will provide all tools and on-site instruction, but make sure to watch this quick video beforehand for a tree planting tutorial.

This volunteer project:

  • is kid-friendly
  • requires no previous experience
  • is open to all members of the GR community
  • fulfills the hands-on tree planting requirement for our Neighborhood Forester certification

We are currently limiting volunteer projects to 25 people, with COVID-19 health guidelines and procedures in place. Volunteers must register individually, ahead of time, and will be asked to wear a mask at all projects.

The City of Grand Rapids, Friends of Grand Rapids Parks, and the Grand Rapids Community Foundation launched the Urban Forest Project in 2011 to work toward a 40% tree canopy, a goal established by the Green Grand Rapids amendment to the city master plan. Every tree planted and cared for helps to create greener neighborhoods, intercept stormwater, conserve energy, remove air pollutants, and reduce and store CO2.
