Tree Care 101 Class

September 26 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Not everyone needs in-depth lessons about tree identification and care – perhaps you simply want to be able to responsibly plant trees and help take care of them. If this sounds like you, attend our new Tree Care 101 Class!

Sign up by emailing becky@friendsofgrparks.org

This class has been designed specifically to help prepare volunteers and Garfield Park neighbors to care for new trees being planted through the Mayor’s Greening Initiative. On Oct. 9 and 10, volunteers will help plant 400 new trees in the area – and we’re committed to helping them grow and thrive!

Tree Care 101 provides a high-level overview of tree benefits, the planting process, and establishment and maintenance techniques. It is completely FREE, and will be taught by our Urban Forest team outside at Garfield Park. Social distancing and masks are required.

Registrants will receive more information via email before the event, and walk away with materials to help you succeed in taking care of neighborhood trees!

*If you’d like more in-depth tree education, consider our Neighborhood Forester Certification! This free program requires attendance to four classes and two hands-on experiences. LEARN MORE HERE*

The City of Grand Rapids, Friends of Grand Rapids Parks, and the Grand Rapids Community Foundation launched the Urban Forest Project in 2011 to work toward a 40% tree canopy, a goal established by the Green Grand Rapids amendment to the city master plan. Every tree planted and cared for helps to create greener neighborhoods, intercept stormwater, conserve energy, remove air pollutants, and reduce and store CO2.
