Volunteer Spotlight: Chazz D.

Chazz has been a volunteer with Friends for the last year. He joined us with the goal of making Grand Rapids a greener place and is very excited about the rescheduled Mayor’s Greening Initiative in Garfield Park.

He grew up trapping tadpoles, carousing in the creek, and traipsing through the trees. Being in nature has been the best part of his life, and he wants everyone to experience our natural environment as much as they can.

Volunteer spotlightHe works for the Grand Rapids Public Library, is a board member for the Garfield Park Neighborhood Association, and is attending Grand Valley State University in pursuit of a master’s in social innovation. With this degree, he hopes to change some big problems like systemic racism and climate change.

Chazz has nine children and seven grandchildren. He is a transgender man with interests in tai chi, reading, jumping down the rabbit hole in search of knowledge, and of course spending time outside.

We are lucky to have him on board and so appreciative of all he does!
