Toodaloo Tree Beer

Thursday, March 15, we said toodaloo to this year’s Tree Beer. Over the past month, tree-inspired beers, ciders, and cocktails have been available at participating breweries in order to help raise money for Friends. Tree Beer was born from the celebration of Grand Rapids being named Beer City USA in 2013. Over the past five years, local brewers have helped raise funds to support green spaces throughout the city, and have planted 128 trees in Coit Park, Riverside Park, and Highland Park.

This year’s Tree Beer celebration was sent off Thursday night with our event at Logan’s Alley. It featured a tap takeover of Tree Beers created by the lovely people at Speciation Artisan Ales, Thornapple Brewing Company, The Mitten Brewery Co., and Brewery Vivant. We shared a glass of these beers with great people who came out to celebrate trees and public spaces in Grand Rapids. While we are sad to see Tree Beer go, we are overjoyed by the support of these brewers and the citizens of Grand Rapids. It’s events like these that illustrate what our community can do when we put our minds together. We here at Friends would like to raise a glass to everyone who participated this year, whether that was by creating a new brew, coming to one of our events, or simply by drinking a Tree Beer.
