Friends of GR Parks Grows Their Team!

Friends of GR Parks is growing their community engagement focus by adding one new team member, three new board members and one city liaison to its organization.

Dia Noble, previously from Boy Scouts of America President Ford Field Service Council, joins the Friends of GR Parks team at the new Community Engagement Coordinator. Noble will focus on growing the Friends of GR Parks, Parks Alive program along with connecting the community to Grand Rapids parks and green spaces.

Additionally, Rachael Ruiz from WOOD TV8, Josh Verhulst from Hope Network, and Megan Odegaard from BDO Siedman and Farmhaus Cider all join the Friends of GR Parks board of directors.

The final addition to the organization is Joe Jones, commissioner and executive director of the Urban League of Grand Rapids. Jones joins the organization as a city liaison. Friends of GR Parks holds two city liaison positions to ensure partnership and unison on projects with the City Parks and Recreation Department. Jones replaces assistant city manager, Tom Almonte as liaison and joins Friends other city liaison, David Marquardt, director of City Parks and Recreation. Jones and the entire board of directors will help to guide the nonprofit organization to fulfill its mission now and into the future.

In 2018, Friends of GR Parks will be celebrating ten years of serving the community. The focus of the organization is on activating Grand Rapids parks, creating a robust stewardship program around park and tree volunteers, and fundraising for special park and tree canopy projects in our community.
