We are friends spotlight on Board Member Kevin Patterson

Q: What has been one of your favorite Friends of Grand Rapids Parks events?
A: I really enjoyed FGRP’s clean up event that I attended last spring at Richmond Park. I met some great volunteers and really enjoyed helping to pull weeds, pick up garbage, and paint picnic tables.

Q: What’s the best part about living in Grand Rapids?

A: Limited traffic, thriving economy. and great beer… personally I go with Founders’ Rubaeus in the summertime!

Q: How did you get involved with Friends of Grand Rapids Parks?
A: I attended the GR Chamber of Commerce Board Connect event back in August of 2014 and spoke with Steve Faber and Monica Steimle who both noted that Friends of was looking for a CPA who liked digging into the financial aspects of a non-profit organization. I luckily met both criteria!

Q: If you could pick one thing to add to our parks, what would it be and why?
A: More pre-planned events that get individuals who normally would not stop by any GR parks to stop by and enjoy them like the Movies in the Park series at Ah-Nab-Awen Park.

Q: The Green Gala is around the corner! What does it mean to you?
A: I consider the Green Gala to be the “End of Summer Party” that attracts a large number of very motivated and environmentally minded Grand Rapids professionals!

This is the sixth in a series of monthly profiles featuring the many people–staff, Board members, volunteers and more–who, together, are Friends of Grand Rapids Parks.
