MAYOR’S TREE OF THE YEAR UPDATE

Due to server issues with the Urban Forest Project’s Tree Map feature, Friends of Grand Rapids Parks and the City of Grand Rapids will now be accepting nominations for Mayor’s Tree of the Year via email or Facebook message. This is an easier way for you to tell the rest of Grand Rapids why a tree in your community is so awesome.

Interested in nominating a tree? Via Facebook- First you will need to like the Friends of Grand Rapids Parks page, and then you can go ahead and leave us a message that gives a corresponding address or location description for your tree, the tree species, and a comment on why you think this tree should be nominated. This will help the selection committee make this difficult decision! Via Email- please send an email with the same information (a corresponding address or location description for your tree, the tree species, and a comment on why you think this tree should be nominated) to Margaret Studer, Project Coordinator, at margaret@friendsofgrandrapidsparks.org. If you have already successfully nominated your tree via Tree Map then you’re done and you don’t need to worry about submitting your nominations again.

Nominations will now be accepted through Monday, June 8th, 2015! The City’s Urban Forestry Committee will select a nomination for Mayor’s Tree of the Year at their June 11th meeting.

This year, whomever nominates the winning tree will receive a $100.00 Merrell Shoe gift card and will be invited to participate in the Mayor’s Tree of the Year ceremony that is scheduled for Tuesday June 30th at 1:00pm.

Please check out the events calendar at www.urbanforestproject.org for more information on the 2015 Mayor’s Tree of the Year, tree plantings, and other opportunities to get involved. Together we can make every day a celebration of trees!
