Seeking Summer 2015 Intern

Paid Internship

Title: Intern – Friends of Grand Rapids Parks
Reports to: Executive Director
Term: May 15 through Sept 1st (Flexible start/end)
Hours: 15+ hours a week, Occasional evenings and weekends
Salary/Rate: $10/hr

Deadline: Friday May 1st, 2015
The Friends of Grand Rapids Parks is a citizen-driven 501c3 non-profit organization working to protect, enhance, and expand our community parks and public spaces. Key programs include:
Volunteer park and urban forest projects,
Education and awareness building events,
Resource development to support parks and public spaces

Position Description:
The Friends of Grand Rapids Parks intern will assist in organizing and implementing a variety of events, office and volunteer management functions.  This position will assist the Friends of Grand Rapids Parks’ staff in the development, planning and implementation of key fundraising and program events.  The intern will also assist the Executive Director in donor data management and program staff with volunteer data management.  This internship is intended for a student or recent graduate interested in acquiring nonprofit experience.  The intern should expect to learn more about nonprofit management and about building strong partnerships with nonprofit groups, neighborhood associations, the City of GR, foundations, and a variety of community leaders.
Position Responsibilities:

Works with Executive Director and staff to manage contacts and communications

Generates mailing lists for key events and programs

Maintains records for volunteers and donors

Assists with the event coordination

Work with staff and committees to help coordinate key membership and fundraising events

Work with staff to table events such as Movies in the Park, volunteer fairs, and special events

From time to time, other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications:
Past experience working with non-profit organizations and volunteering is highly desirable.

Organized and motivated. Ability to establish priorities and work independently on assigned tasks.

Team player capable of working with staff, partners, and volunteers in an additive way.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and web applications.

Other Job Requirements:

Open to working some weekends and weeknights as needed.
