Groups Plant Trees to Celebrate Arbor Day

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) — The City of Grand Rapids marked Arbor Day by planting trees and looking for the city’s best tree.

Volunteers planted trees in the Garfield Park neighborhood, beginning around 1 p.m. Friday. It’s part of the city’s push to plant hundreds of trees across Grand Rapids this spring.

The city also opened nominations for the Mayor’s 2015 Tree of the Year. It’s part of a collaboration of Friends of Grand Rapids Parks and the Grand Rapids Urban Forestry Committee.

People can nominate trees by adding them to the online Grand Rapids tree map. Nominators must add a comment about why the tree deserves honors.
