Temporary ice rinks to open in Wilcox, Cherry Parks

This coming weekend two Uptown city parks will host opening celebrations of temporary ice skating rinks.

Friends of Grand Rapids Parks is bringing back ice rinks for the winter season to two Uptown city parks for the second year in a row.

On Saturday, January 24 from 1-3 p.m. at Cherry Park in East Hills there will be hot chocolate, coffee and snacks provided for residentsn and visitors for the opening of the temporoary ice rink. There will also be a snowman building contest, weather permitting.

Sponsors for the Cherry Park rink include Brewery Vivant, Grove, The Green Well Gastro Pub, Rockford Construction and Valley City Linen. The ice rink is an initiative of Friends of Grand Rapids parks in partnership with East Hills Council of Neighbors. Furniture City Creamery will provide the hot chocolate.

On Sunday, January 25 at 1 p.m. at Wilcox Park in Eastown, Terra GR Restaurant will provide warm drinks and the Cakabakery will provide treats for residents that come out to celebrate the opening of their neighborhood’s ice rink. Harmony Brewing Company is sponsoring the rink, which is an initiative of Friends of Grand Rapids Parks in partnership with Eastown Community Associatioin.

Both events are free and open to the public.
