Summer picturesque kicks off with photo walk through city park

On Tuesday, July 22 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., The Rapidian will kick off its summer Picturesque photo contest with a photo tour of three City parks: Lincoln Park, Sullivan Field and the Sixth Street Bridge Park.

In collaboration with Friends of Grand Rapids Parks (FGRP), The Rapidian has organized “Nature Calls,” a photography walk through the parks lead by citizen reporter and regular photo contributor Steven DePolo. He will offer tips and tricks on photo technique, composition and lighting.

All levels of photography skills and equipment are welcome and encouraged, from novice to professional. Any camera format is acceptable, from iPhones to DSLRs.

The three parks were chosen by FGRP staff. The Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH) will provide transportation to the parks for up to 15 participants. Participants are encouraged to sign up here in advance to reserve a seat. The group will meet at the DASH lot D located in the 300 block of Winter Avenue NW just south of Bridge Street and then head out together promptly at 6:30. This event is free and open to the public.

Picturesque is a quarterly photo contest hosted by The Rapidian. The contest is thematic and submissions can be uploaded to the Rapidian website. Readers vote on their favorite photo and the winner receives Rapidian swag.

Register for this event at Eventbright. There is no fee, but a $10 donation is suggested to help cover costs of the bus for transportation. Occupancy is on a first come, first serve basis.
