Tree beer debuts in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) — Beer inspired by trees. That’s right, 17 local breweries are partnering with Friends of Grand Rapids Parks to produce tree themed beers.

Breweries are using oak, cherries, maple syrup, and other tree related things to flavor their beers.

Monday Harmony Brewing Company debuted its beer inspired by and made from the Linden flowers in Wilcox park.

There has been a lot of support for the fundraiser throughout the city. Those involved say it just makes sense.

Steve Faber, Exec. Dir. Friends of GR Parks: “It’s been overwhelming, I mean, I think the combination of tree city and beer city is a pretty powerful one and so it’s something that I just don’t know any other city in the country that can do this right now, this place and time.”

The proceeds from the sale of these beers goes toward the Urban Forests Project. The goal is to increase the city’s forest canopy to 40 percent.
