Winter West Recap

Some quick facts:

  • Over 100 participants ran, jumped and slid around the park in the first ever Richmond Park Winter Rush
  • 15 Cardboard Sledders battled it out in the Crazy Cardboard Sled Competition
  • 24 Broomball Players competed in the Broomball Tournament
  • With the help of local sponsors, we gave away $3,000 worth of prizes!
  • Even with the abbreviated event, we still passed out over 300 packets of Hot Chocolate in the Warming Shelter!
  • 311 people now follow WinterWest on Facebook, recording more than 2,000 page views per week
  • WelcomeWest.org recorded over 2,500 hits during the event

smilesUnfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate perfectly, but we were able to make the most of it! We did have perfect conditions for the Winter Rush and the Crazy Cardboard Sled Race, and good turnouts for both. We were also able to move the Broomball Tournament to an indoor rink.

We are already excited about WinterWest 2013 and hoping for the snow and cold weather to return. In the meantime, there will be plenty of opportunities to stay involved with the City Parks, Friends of Grand Rapids Parks and WelcomeWest.

Thanks again to everyone that supported and participated in WinterWest 2012!
