GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) 4.22.09 – A non-profit organization has been
formed to rebuild and sustain the system of parks and public spaces in
Grand Rapids. It’s called “Friends of Grand Rapids Parks.”

“The
group announced its launch only six days ago. Its mission is to
strengthen economic competitiveness, environmental health, and cultural
well-being. In the past three years, the city’s park budget has been
cut by 40 percent. According to Executive Director, Steve Faber, that’s
what prompted a group of concerned community members to step up and
form this non-profit organization. He believes the parks and public
spaces strengthen the city’s economic competitiveness when it comes to
quality of life.”
