Living Green in Creston’s Annual Perennial Exchange

1. Dig up and label your extra perennials to trade and share with neighbors. (No invasive species, please!)

2. Don’t worry if you don’t have any to share – experienced gardeners love to help those who are just starting out.

3. Come share and socialize!

Information available on native plants. Master gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions!

Fill-up Fuller Tree Planting Project (01 Jun 2013)

In November, 2012 Fuller Ave between Michigan and Fulton lost nearly all of its Ash Trees. Now, the Friends of Grand Rapids Parks has partnered with the City of Grand Rapids to replace 50 trees along Fuller Ave between Michigan and Fulton. We’ll be meeting at Fuller Park at 8:45 am.

Friends of GR Parks will provide the trees, tools and training. Bring a snack, water bottle, and a pair of work gloves if you'd like.

Citizen Forester Tree Identification Workshop (12 Jun 2013)

Join us for the third installment of our Citizen Forester class series. In Tree Identification, participants will go over basic tenets of tree identification and practice your skills outside.

ICCC Volunteer Group Park Clean-Up (23 Jul 2013)

Volunteers from around the country, in town as attendees of the International Council of Community Churches Conference, will be working with Friends of Grand Rapids Parks on a park clean-up project on Tuesday, July 23.

The Green Gala is Friends of Grand Rapids Parks' annual fundraiser to support our ongoing mission to protect, enhance and expand parks and public spaces in the City. Visit green-gala.com and friends ofgrparks.org for additional information.

Parking will be available in the 2 surface lots directly across the street from 634 Front Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.

Doors open at 7pm. The registration table will be located at 634 Front Ave NW in front of the Plante&Moran/Christman Co. Bldg.

If you are arriving by foot or bike, please visit the registration table on Front Ave first. There is covered parking for bikes inside the event, but you will need your ticket first.

Evening Schedule:

7pm – Doors Open

7-7:30 – Drinks and Mingling. Photo Wall Open

Each guest will receive a free drink ticket for one of our signature Green Gala Cocktails, Local Beer or Michigan Wines. We will be able to process credit cards at the event, but cash will help speed up transactions.

10:15 – Final Announcements

Going Green:
All cups, plates, napkins, food, etc. at this event are compostable materials. There will be labeled bins around the event for compost, recycling and landfill. Members of our Green Patrol will be there to assist you, but please do your part by reusing materials and appropriately disposing of waste to help us keep this a more sustainable event.

Last year we were successful in being a carbon neutral event thanks to generous tree sponsors at the event. Tree Sponsorships will be available again this year. We can accommodate multiple parties "chipping" in on one tree as well. We will plant these trees this fall and recognize sponsors through our new crowd-sourced tree map at www.urbanforestproject.com.

Attire:
The Green Gala is a semi-formal event. Guests are asked to wear green inspired attire. See pictures from last year's event to get inspired.
